The coin's reverse pays tribute to the vast forests of Canada with a "heart of the forest" pulsating pattern behind the ultra-high relief maple leaf. Mist-shrouded trees move in and out of view as the angle of the coin changes. The effect is produced using laser engraving technology to create an array of microscopic cubes which reflect light back to the viewer. The illusion of movement is unique.
