Obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as conceived by artist Susanna Blunt. Displayed in the coin's reverse is the iconic maple leaf engraving, designed by Master Engraver Walter Ott. The astonishing design of the Maple Leaf series has attracted precious metal investors and coin collectors ever since their first issue in 1988. The coin's reverse is an industry classic and has remained unchanged since its introduction - with the exception of unique security features that started in 2014 and quickly became a staple in anti-counterfeit measures. Susanna Blunt's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of the 2022 Silver Maple Leaf.
The series has featured three different renditions of Her Majesty over the years of her rule. The current profile portrait of Her Majesty was designed in 2003 by Blunt, who is only the second-ever Canadian artist to devise a monarch's profile for Canadian coinage. Arching along the top is the inscription "ELIZABETH II", and on the bottom "5 DOLLARS 2022". Displayed in the reverse of the silver coin is the iconic design of a sugar maple leaf. It was first introduced in 1979, with the release of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf series.
The cherished image was envisioned by Master Engraver Walter Ott, and is still in use to this day in all Maple Leaf bullion coins. Surrounding the image, on the top, the inscribed letters read "CANADA", while "9999" and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" read from left to right, on the lower half.
